Overlooking the Niagara River Whirlpool the Niagara Glen Nature Reserve is a little piece of paradise deep in the Great Gorge.
As with any Nature Reserve, it is critical to stay on the trails and ensure you are following the Leave No Trace principles. There is sensitive flora and fauna that need to be preserved, and no one likes seeing garbage all over the place when you go out on an Adventure.
Our Hike:
From the parking lot it is a quick walk to the steep staircase that takes you down to the 4km of trails in the Glen.
We followed the trail to the right which took us along the high cliff and down through some neat Rock formations, almost like tunnels, and on to an absolutely gorgeous view of the river. Be cautious as there was plenty of small bits of glass, apparently not everyone is following the leave no trace principles!
The trail follows along the river with spectacular views of the rushing water in the Gorge, we passed some cool looking boulders that were fun to climb on and explore. (note; a climbing pass is required for Rock Climbing in the Glen, it can be purchased at the Nature Centre ).
There are plenty of spots to sit and grab a snack, have some lunch or just take in some of the beautiful scenery. Be cautious near the water as it moving at a very fast speed.
Our hike finished by following along the cliff face to the stairs that lead up to the parking lot.
Niagara Falls is a quick 10min drive away so we opted to go there for lunch and a little more exploring to make the most of our trip out there.
